Fantasy Baseball

I've never been a "fanatic" of any professional sport. I've been to a number of professional games including MLB(Braves, Phillies, Pirates, Yankees), NFL(Bills) and NHL(Thrashers). I've even had the pleasure of attending Game 5 of the '95 World Series. I have kept up on highlights and headlines pertaining to sports over the years - and found it mildly interesting. That's about it... until this year. The wife's cousin asked me to become involved in a Fantasy Baseball League. I accepted and it has been dominating my life. Well, I take that back. Dominating is a fairly strong assessment - let's use the word "consuming". Ever since the season started my head has been filled with "stats". I initially thought that I would be the laughing stock of the league. I was very nervous at the draft because honestly, I didn't even know who 75% of the players were. I did a little research on the net based on stats and used that as my basis. There are seven of us involved and three of us met at the cousin's house while the rest were on the phone. I was at the end of the draft order - I have no idea if this is good or bad. I heard a few snickers when I made my picks but, for the most part, everyone was cordial. Now, two months into this thing and I've been #1 for 75% of the time. I watch Sports Center religiously and am following baseball like never before. I find it fascinating and only wished I had done this a long time ago.

My cousin, who is a very talented artist, just produced some artwork involving Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds. Go here David Evans Art to see it. Obviously, this is huge right now. I find it interesting that Aaron doesn't really care about someone eclipsing the record he has held for so many years. Some think it's because he doesn't like Bonds. Others believe he is just plain tired of all the hype. I tend to believe the latter. He's an old man who just wants to live quietly, away from the limelight. I respect a guy like that.
